A Secret Spot, One Ring, and the Perfect "Yes" in Los Cabos

There are moments in life that happen only once. A surprise proposal is one of them, a few unforgettable seconds that mark the beginning of an entirely new chapter. It’s a moment filled with excitement, nerves, anticipation, and emotions that can never be recreated.

Cecilia and Rafael's proposal at Playa Monumentos was one of those moments.

From the very beginning, Rafael knew exactly how he wanted this day to feel. He wasn't looking for a crowded restaurant or a public event with dozens of people watching. His dream was simple: a proposal that felt private, intimate, and completely natural, just the two of them sharing one of the most important moments of their lives. Finding the Perfect Hidden Spot

One of the reasons I love photographing proposals in Los Cabos is that there are still places that feel untouched and peaceful. Instead of staying in the busiest area of the beach, I guided Cecilia and Rafael to a more secluded location, a hidden corner where the only sounds were the waves, the ocean breeze, and their own conversation.

The timing couldn't have been more perfect. The afternoon light painted the ocean in beautiful shades of blue while the sky slowly began transforming into warm golden tones. It was one of those evenings photographers hope for, where every color seems richer and every photograph feels cinematic.

Once we arrived, I stepped back and gave them space. That's one of the most important parts of photographing a proposal. Rather than directing every movement, I let couples simply enjoy the moment. I stayed at a distance with my camera ready, quietly waiting for Rafael to feel comfortable enough to ask the question he had been planning for so long.

The Moment Everything Changed

After a few minutes of walking, talking, and enjoying the view together, Rafael finally stopped.

He looked at Cecilia, reached into his pocket, and slowly got down on one knee.

For just a second, everything stood still.

Then came the look of surprise.

Her hands immediately covered her face as she realized what was happening. Tears filled her eyes before Rafael could even finish asking the question.

And then...

With a joyful scream that echoed across the beach, Cecilia said "Yes!"

The two embraced tightly, laughing, crying, and kissing while completely forgetting that anyone else was there.

Those are the moments I love most as a photographer, not because they're perfectly posed, but because they're completely real.

GIVING THEM TIME

One thing I always try to do after a proposal is resist the temptation to immediately jump into portraits.

Those first few minutes belong entirely to the couple.

So I stayed back and simply let them enjoy it.

They hugged each other over and over again, admired the engagement ring, laughed through happy tears, and took in the realization that they were now officially engaged.

Those quiet moments are often just as meaningful as the proposal itself.

CELEBRATING THE BEGINNING OF FOREVER

Once the emotions settled, I slowly approached them to congratulate them and begin photographing the next part of their story.

We captured close-up photographs of the beautiful engagement ring, portraits of the two of them together, and, of course, a few elegant photographs of Cecilia proudly showing her new ring. By then, the sunset had reached its most beautiful colors. The warm light reflected across the ocean while the waves gently rolled onto the shore, creating the perfect backdrop for the beginning of their engagement. Every smile felt effortless because there was nothing to fake. They had just experienced one of the happiest moments of their lives.

Why I Love Photographing Proposals

Every proposal is unique because every couple is unique. Some are elaborate, others are simple, but they all have one thing in common: they're completely genuine.

Photographing Cecilia and Rafael's engagement reminded me why I love documenting these milestones. Being trusted to quietly witness such a personal moment is something I never take for granted.

Knowing that years from now they'll look back at these photographs and relive every emotion, from the nervous anticipation to Cecilia's unforgettable "Yes!" is the greatest reward any photographer could ask for.

Some moments last only a few seconds.

The memories, however, last forever.
